NEWS RELEASE:  1/11/18

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. HOLIDAY- TRASH & RECYCLING COLLECTIONS:

For Farmington residents who have trash and recycling collections by the Town's contractor, there will be normal pickups of trash and recycling on Monday, January 15, 2018.  Reminder:  To ensure proper trash and recyclable pickups, all are required to be at curbside the night before your normal trash/recyclable pickup day.  Thank you. 

CHRISTMAS TREE DISPOSAL:

For residents on Town trash collection service, the Highway and Grounds Division of Public Works will make one final Christmas tree collection throughout the Town on Monday, January 22, 2018.  This will be the final pickup date for all trash routes, so please be sure your tree is at the curb prior to January 22, 2018.

All plastic bags, stands, lights, tinsel, ornaments, etc. must be removed from the trees so they can be chipped safely with no contaminants.  Residents should make sure their trees are not buried and are visible after a storm.

Residents who do not have Town trash collection can bring their Christmas trees to the Tunxis Mead Compost Area on Wednesdays, 8 a.m. - 12 noon, weather permitting.  Thank you.

TUNXIS MEAD COMPOST AREA - Tunxis Mead Road, Farmington:.

Winter Hours:  Effective Wednesday, December 13, 2017, the Tunxis Mead Compost Area is open on WEDNESDAYS ONLY, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (noon), weather permitting.  The gate closes promptly at noon.  Saturday hours will resume in the Spring of 2018.  Residents may bring leaves and brush directly to the Tunxis Mead Compost Area, which is located at the end of Tunxis Mead Road.  Also residents may pick up leaf compost and wood mulch from the Composting Area.  Landscapers and contractors are not allowed to pick up this material.  Please call 860-675-2550, during inclement weather.  Thank you

REMOVAL OF BASKETBALL HOOPS, SOCCER GOALS, ETC, FROM TOWN ROADS:

Any and all sports equipment (basketball poles, hoops, soccer goals, etc., located on or near the road must be removed immediately.  The Town of Farmington will not be responsible for any damages caused to sports equipment from the Town's leaf machines or snowplows.

SANDBOX LOCATIONS:

The Farmington Highway and Grounds Division of Public Works placed sandboxes at the following locations:

  • East Farms Fire Station
  • Farmington Fire Station
  • Oakland Gardens Fire Station
  • Southwest Fire Station
  • Tunxis Hose Fire Station
  • Highway Garage, 544 New Britain Avenue, Unionville

This sand is for icy walkways, and is not intended for residents driveways.  To be considerate of others, please limit yourself to a 5-gallon container.  Commercial users are not allowed to remove sand from these sandboxes. 

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE / ELECTRONIC RECYCLING / SHREDDING:

The Town of Farmington is working the towns of Avon, Canton, Granby and Simsbury, to provide free Household Hazardous Waste Collections.  The collections will run from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., and will be open to all residents of these towns.  Farmington residents will no longer be able to participate in any of the MDC household hazardous waste collections.  The 2018 Household Hazardous Waste / Electronic Recycling / & Shredding, Saturday Collection Dates are scheduled for:

  • April 21, 2018 @ Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT
  • June 9, 2018 @ Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, Simsbury, CT
  • October 27, 2018 @ Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, Simsbury, CT

On the same dates and locations listed above, there will also be FREE collections for residents of Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby and Simsbury for:

  •  Electronics Recycling Collection
  • Used Motor Oil Collection
  • Personal document shredding :  SPECIAL HOURS: 8:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M., OR UNTIL THE TRUCK IS FULL; PLEASE LIMIT YOURSELF TO 2 BOXES.
