TUNXIS MEAD COMPOST AREA - Tunxis Mead Road, Farmington:

Effective Saturday, March 23, 2019, the Tunxis Mead Compost Area will also be open on SATURDAYS, from 8:00 a.m -12:00 p.m. (noon).  It is open 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.(noon) year-round on Wednesdays, weather permitting.  The gate closes promptly at noon.  Residents may bring leaves and brush directly to the Tunxis Mead Compost Area, which is located at the end of Tunxis Mead Road.  Also residents may pick up leaf compost and wood mulch from the Compost Area.  Landscapers and contractors are not allowed to pick up this material.  Please call 860-675-2550, during inclement weather.


For residents who have trash collection by the Town's contractor, the next Town-wide bulky waste collection week will be Monday, April 22nd through Friday, April 26th (on your day for trash pickup).  For additional information please download:  www.farmington-ct.org  Thank you.


The Town of Farmington is again working with the towns of Avon, Canton, Granby and Simsbury, to provide free Household Hazardous Waste Collections.  The collections will run from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.,and will be open to all residents of these towns.  Farmington residents will no longer be able to participate in any of the MDC household hazardous waste collections.  The 2019 Household Hazardous Waste / Electronic Recycling / & Shredding, Collection Dates are scheduled for:

  • April 27, 2019       @ Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT
  • June  8, 2019        @ Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, Simsbury, CT
  • November 9, 2019  @ Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, Simsbury, CT

Also, on the same dates and locations listed above, there will also be FREE collections for the residents of these 5 towns for:

  • Electronics Recycling
  • Used Motor Oil
  • Personal Document Shredding (please limit yourself to 2 boxes)
