Med Return Drug Box
The Farmington Police Department has installed a Med Return drug collection box in the lobby at police headquarters, 319 New Britain Avenue, Unionville. The collection box was obtained through the efforts of the Farmington Police Department, Town of Farmington Officials, and 12 year old Farmington resident Juliana Tyner, who volunteered her time to raise funding for the collection box. The collection box is used to properly and safely collect and dispose of expired or unused medications so they do not pose a safety hazard or contaminate the environment. Acceptable items include prescription medications (including patches and ointments), over the counter medications, vitamins, samples, and pet medications. Items that are NOT accepted include hydrogen peroxide, thermometers, inhalers, needles (sharps), aerosol cans, non-prescription ointments, lotions or liquids, and medications from businesses or clinics. Accepted items can be dropped in the box anonymously.

S.M.A.R.T. (Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer)
If you are a Farmington resident, you have probably seen the interesting device that the police department uses to assist in combating speeding vehicles and to remind daydreaming drivers to watch their speed.
The S.M.A.R.T. (Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer) can be used in neighborhoods, school zones, construction sites, dangerous areas, or any other appropriate location to help promote compliance with the speed limit.
The S.M.A.R.T. trailer is a portable, self-contained speed display unit that is towed to the desired location. It is left on the roadway to display speeds of oncoming vehicles on a highly visible LED (light emitting diode) display. A speed limit sign mounted on the unit reminds drivers what the actual speed limit is on the road that they are on.
The unit also has the capability to record the speed data and traffic counts to determine the need for speed enforcement in certain areas. Occasionally you might notice that the S.M.A.R.T. trailer appears to not be working, the system might be running in it's survey mode only. The trailer is still functioning properly at that mode.
If you live in Farmington and feel that you have a problem with speeding vehicles in your neighborhood, you are encouraged to contact the Farmington Police Department's Special Project Unit and request that the S.M.A.R.T. trailer be scheduled in your area.
You can do this by calling the Farmington Police Department at (860) 675-2400.
Home or business security checks are available through the Community Policing/Special Projects Unit of the Farmington Police. The officer will give pointers on proper locks, landscaping, and lighting to make your home or business a safer place for you, your family and your employees.
