  2. To recruit candidates for the position of police officer, both certified and entry level. The Farmington Police Department is committed to the equal opportunity principle of hiring the most qualified personnel based solely on employment qualifications. The recruitment process is Therefore established with the goal of attracting a diverse body of candidates to fill civilian positions and/or sworn positions. Final authority for the recruitment for all Town employees is invested in the Town Manager to be delegated as necessary to department heads. Recruitment activities for the general recruitment process, the certified process or the civilian process shall be jointly administered by designees of the Town Manager and The Chief of Police.

  3. Recruitment in the Community
    1. Recruitment Plan
    2. The department will work in conjunction with the Town Manager’s office in establishing the recruitment efforts for the police department. The department will maintain a recruitment plan a statement of objectives, plan of action to achieve those objectives, procedures to evaluate the progress made toward those objectives every three years and revision of the plan. Female and minority employees will participate in job fairs and other functions in area high schools to demonstrate a commitment to equal employment. Job fairs and similar community events will be a primary focus of the Town's effort to attract more minority candidates. The Town will send notification to the New England Minority News, Town’s website, Job Bank, Ctnow.com and the Hartford Courant with information for our website link to gather information on job openings. In addition, the consultant hired to do the testing process will place announcements to:

In accordance with the Town of Farmington's Equal Employment Opportunity Plan the department will "continue to advertise extensively in general circulation newspapers and in newspapers which have a large circulation among minority and Hispanic residents. The Hartford Courant provides statewide coverage. Job announcements will also be placed in the New England Minority News, Town’s Website, Job Bank, Ctnow.com, and the Hartford Courant. The department will also continue to recruit in colleges and universities with Criminal Justice programs through the consultant hired to do the process."

    2. This explains the testing process for all Farmington Police Department Civilian Applicants. The testing process is approximately 1-4 months long and the selection process is approximately 4 months long. A description of what is involved in these processes is listed below. Any applicant can reapply in the future if elements that existed for previous rejection have changed.
