June is Dog Licensing Month

Post Date:06/01/2026 2:55 PM

If your dog is over six months of age, State of Connecticut law requires that your dog be licensed annually. Dog licenses are issued throughout the year; however, renewal of current licenses takes place during the month of June.

A current rabies certificate is required to license your dog. To receive a reduced licensing fee, proof of spaying or neutering is also required. If your dog was licensed in Farmington last year, you will receive a renewal notice from the Town Clerk’s Office in early June. The notice will include the expiration date of the rabies certificate currently on file, as well as your dog’s spay or neuter status.

If the rabies certificate on file has expired, an updated certificate must be provided before a new license can be issued. Renewals may be completed by mail or in person at the Town Clerk’s Office. If renewing by mail, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope, any required certificates, and payment by personal check, bank check, or money order payable to the Town of Farmington.

Annual Top Dog Drawing

Farmington’s Annual Top Dog Drawing will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 10:00 AM. One lucky dog will receive Farmington’s #1 Dog Tag and free registration for the 2026-2027 licensing year.

To enter, dogs must either be currently registered in Farmington or be under six months old. To participate, send or bring a 4x6 photo of your dog to the Town Clerk’s Office by June 8. Please include your dog’s name and the owner’s contact information on the back of the photo.

For additional information about dog licensing, please visit the Town Clerk’s Dog Licenses page.
