Tunxis Mead Compost Area - Tunxis Mead Road, Farmington:

Effective March 28, 2020:  The Tunxis Mead Compost Area will resume Saturday hours (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.).

The Tunxis Mead Compost Area is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m -12:00 p.m. (noon), weather permitting.  The gate closes promptly at noon.  Residents may bring leaves and brush directly to the Tunxis Mead Compost Area, which is located at the end of Tunxis Mead Road.  Also residents may pick up leaf compost and wood mulch from the Compost Area.  Landscapers and contractors are not allowed to pick up this material.  Please call 860-675-2550, during inclement weather.


Simple Recycling Textile Recycling:

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, Simple Recycling will be temporarily discontinuing pickup service due to Coronavirus.

  • Tunxis Hose Fire Station
  • Highway Garage, 544 New Britain Avenue, Unionville

This sand is for icy walkways and is not intended for residents driveways.  To be considerate of others, please limit yourself to a 5-gallon container.  Commercial users are not allowed to remove sand from these sandboxes.


Town-wide Bulky Waste Collection (April 20-24, 2020):

During the week of April 20-24, 2020, all Farmington residents who have trash collection by the Town's contractor (Waste Material Trucking Company) are invited to leave their bulk items curbside the night before their regular collection day.  For rules, regulations, and additional information, please click on the link below:

Household Hazardous Waste/Electronics Recycling/Shredding:

The Town of Farmington is working with the towns of Avon, Canton, Granby, Simsbury, and Suffield to provide free Household Hazardous Waste Collections.  The collections will run from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and will be open to all residents of these towns.  The Collection dates are scheduled for:

  • April 25, 2020 - at Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT. (Canceled -  A new date will be announced in the future)

  • June 13, 2020 - at Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest  Road, Simsbury, CT.

  • October 17, 2020 - at Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, Simsbury, CT.

On the same dates and locations listed above, there will also be FREE collections for the residents of Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury and Suffield:

  • Electronics Recycling
  • Used motor oil
  • Personal document shredding - hours are 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or until the trucks are full (please limit yourself to 2 boxes)
