A note regarding payment by check - effective September 1, 2017:

In accordance with town policy, any check received by the tax collector’s office will be returned to the sender if any of the following apply.  This will be done to avoid any suspicion of fraud and to eliminate the possibility that the bank will refuse the check.  No courtesy contact will be attempted:

(1)  If the legal line is:

  • not filled out at all
  • not filled out completely.
  • is written for a different amount than the numerical line (courtesy amount).

(2)  If the numerical line (courtesy amount) is:

  • not filled out at all.
  • not filled out completely.

(3)  If the check is unsigned.

(4)  If the ‘pay to the order of’ line is not complete AND there is no bill to accompany the check.

There are three ways to make a payment toward your tax bills:

Option 1:

Mail a check to the Farmington Tax Collector. If you do not want a receipt, please use the self-addressed envelope included with your tax bill. This payment will go to our lockbox (mailing address to the post office box in Hartford is correct) to be processed by our bank and sent to us for posting. If you do want a receipt, please mail your entire bill along with payment to the Farmington Tax Collector, 1 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT 06032.
** You can make one check for all of your bills.

Option 2:

Pay in person by check (personal or cashier’s), money order or cash. Currently, we do not accept credit/ debit cards over the phone or at our window. If you wish to pay online with a credit/debit card or by electronic check, you may use our public access computer which is located near the tax office window and available for use during regular business hours.

Option 3:

Pay online. For a fee, you can pay your tax bill by credit/debit card or electronic check (EFT (check)). The convenience fee to pay by credit or debit card is 2.95% of the transaction amount. The convenience fee to pay by EFT check is $0.95. Convenience fees are non-refundable.

To pay prior motor vehicle taxes:

To obtain DMV clearance, all motor vehicle taxes in your name must be paid in full in cash or by cashier’s check at the tax collector’s office or online with a credit (not debit) card (fees apply). If the new amounts are available for the supplemental list or next Grand List, these taxes must also be paid in cash for DMV clearance. Please contact our office with any questions.
